Making and reflecting
On 12 May and 14 May from 10-2pm at The Winchester Gallery I’ll be leading a free workshop on behalf of the gallery exploring climate and our connection to planet, nature, our local green space and people. We will be creating a 3D globe sculpture, either individually or as a group and using whatever materials and whichever techniques we feel appropriate. We will encourage salvaged, natural and recycled materials or we can customise existing globes. The globes can be submitted to the Small Worlds show by deadline 6th June (all artworks will be displayed, conditions apply).
During this 2 day workshop we’ll start by meeting with Kate Maple, Gallery Manager to get a feel for the gallery itself and hear a little about the upcoming show, Small Worlds, then adjourn to a nearby green space to explore, collect and reflect as a group. Back in the studio, tools and materials will be supplied offering a range of options for making globes as well as sharing anything we’ve brought along ourselves. Globes can be individual or collaborative and are limited only by imagination (and a maximum size, roughly similar to a beachball).
No prior experience is necessary, just the enthusiasm and willingness to commune with others, reflect on these important issues in our world today and create something to be proud of. We will meet at 10am at The Winchester Gallery, Park Ave, Winchester SO23 8DL on both 12 & 14 May.

*Small Worlds, a 3D sculptural installation running 11 July - 16 August 2025, is part of Hampshire County Council’s Climate Unity project. The Winchester Gallery at Winchester School of Art is working in partnership to invite artists, craft makers, schools and communities to collaborate on a large-scale installation in the gallery.
