Artist

Currently undertaking an MA in Fine Art at Winchester School of Art, Helen’s practice in previous years has developed in 2 key strands: encompassing her own autobiographical work (sculpture, print and video); and developing a socially engaged practice as an educator and researcher.  Always working with community in mind, these areas inform and feed one another. They are rooted in a fascination for process, materiality and human connection.

During covid times, Helen completed a self imposed Artist Residency in Motherhood observing and documenting the order and chaos inherent in any parenting journey. This led to a written inclusion in internationally distributed book “Mother’s Days’ by Lenka Clayton.

As Artist in Residence (2019-2024) at the kindergarten within Marwell Zoo, Hampshire, Helen explored natural responses by young children to the availability of materials and an artist - and this has influenced her direction and consideration of innate creativity in humans as well as feeding ideas into her own practice.

With a focus on pre and primary phases and issues of creativity in education, Helen launched Little Sheds™ in 2025 (see blog post). Latterly, she finds herself pulled into socio political issues as well as climate justice feeling that art has such a major role to play in influencing outcomes for the human race.
